Historical Milestone of CLTRI

1973-74:  Dr. R.K. Khadilkar, was Union Minister of Health and Family Planning Govt of     India.

27-02-1974 :  CLTRI declared subordinate office of DGHS. 

01/04/1974:  Dr C G S Iyar functions as first Director Central Leprosy Teaching and Research Institute (Under control of Dte. General of Health Services)

1976: Dr Shepard Standardized Mouse Foot Pad(MFP) in the Animal House of CLTRI

1980:  Dr Dharmendra was first Indian who received Damian Dutta Award

1984:  Dr H Shriniwasan, Famous RCS Surgeon Ex Director CLTRI received Padma Shree Award.

1984:  Dr. Dharmendra said in one interview mere MDT will not able to eradicate Leprosy in Short time, we should learn from experience of Norway who took 74 years to eradicate the leprosy. “The habit of indiscriminately blowing the nose and spitting etc. has to be eradicated before leprosy is eradicated”.

27-01-1997: Addressed DM & RHS, Madras regarding correspondence on taking over remaining land from CLTRI surplus land by Tamil Nadu Government. The process of initiation for the eviction of encroachment in CLTRI Campus. Correspondence regarding forestation was started.   ....more
